B.1999 Guiyang, China
Wang Xiya (1999, Guiyang) bases her work on photography, moving image and multimedia installations, focusing on the gaze, absence, power, space, wandering, hauntology and the connection between them and historical and cultural narratives. She regards the “image” as a strategy of diminished presence, a psychologically deferred space of manifestation, exploring how the image, as a proxy for the gaze within symbolic space, arrives at a specific stage of nothingness.
